bpp4 is missing ?

i am having the following problem:
when i try to start X with afterstep as default window manager
it fails and generates the file .xsession_errors which
is attached to this message.
i have linux debian (hamm) kernel 2.0.35
and video card ATI Mach64 Rage 2 with 4 mb.
I could not find the requred file base.4bpp 
mentioned in .xsession_errors
