When you install a unices OS, you have a choice of installing just
the "runtime" libraries and binaries, and then the development headers.
It is thiese development headers which are required to do any compiling of
programs. In this situation, the configure script is looking for the X
headers, of which you probably haven't installed. Get the headers for X
and the other libraries (xpm at a minumum) listed in the README, and all
should continue nicely.
