Ok...I'm new to this, and the documentation for afterstep is sort of scattered.

First, I removed the old version of afterstep, as the README-REDHAT suggested.

I downloaded the most current "stable" version of afterstep.
I unzipped and untarred it.
I ran the script.

Then I tried startx, and it couldn't find the afterstep file.
So, I did a search for the afterstep, and found it.

I copied it to my X11R6 directory, and afterstep loaded.
It looked sort of different, but not much different.
Anyway,
question 1.)
How do you check to see which version is loaded while in Afterstep?

Question 2.).
What exactly should be in the ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep directory?
Should I already have a desktop/themes directory?
Should I already have the winlist files, etc.?

Question #3.)
I created a themes directory in the desktop folder, and unzipped and untarred
the files in there, and now, how do I get those themes working?

I went so far as to copy the installastheme.pl file into the same directory as the theme, and I run
./installastheme.pl --theme SleepWalker
no matter where I run installastheme from, I get access Denied.
If I just type installastheme.pl --theme SleepWalker, it doesn't find the pearl script.

Any suggestions?

At this point, I am questioning everything...
I thought I had AfterStep installed correctly...
Suddenly my menus have changed...etc.

Not sure...

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Sagan
