! question 1.)
! How do you check to see which version is loaded while in Afterstep?

man afterstep - it's in the top 5 lines!

! What exactly should be in the ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep directory?
! Should I already have a desktop/themes directory?
! Should I already have the winlist files, etc.?

man afterstep, look in the INVOCATION, FILES sections as well as
browse the man page itself.

! Question #3.)
! I created a themes directory in the desktop folder, and unzipped and untarred
! the files in there, and now, how do I get those themes working?

Have you got the 0.4 version of the theme.handler? An expanded
README is in it, as well as beside it on the ftp site

! I went so far as to copy the file into the same directory
! as the theme, and I run ./ --theme SleepWalker
! no matter where I run installastheme from, I get access Denied.
! If I just type --theme SleepWalker, it doesn't find the pearl script.

Scripts must be chmod'd to x, for executable. This will be fixed
in the next tarball of the theme.handler, the stable release, and the
snapshot - it is the number 1 question. Otherwise you are doing
everything correctly - that is if you also have your config files in the
~/G/L/A/ tree - as the new README explicitly states. :)
