The development tree is not necessarily gauranteed to work at any
given patch level.  New features are added only to development.
Stable only gets bug fixes for the feature set it has.  For the most
part, devel is pretty stable.  However, from time to time (because new 
features are added) new bugs are introduced to the devel tree.
