In csh (and its variants like tcsh), you redirect _both_ stdout and
stderr with '>&', as in:

startx >& ~/.xerrors

Note that this can be very annoying if you actually want to split the
output (stdout to some place and stderr to another place). To accomplish
this, you must do something like

(startx > ~/.stdout) >& ~/.stderr

The order here is relevant: if you use '>&' first, both streams will go
to the first file, and nothing will be redirected to the second one.
