AfterStep on Solaris 2.6, Ultra10?

I've only used AfterStep on Linux (Intel and PPC hardware).

I'd like to run AS on Sun hardware now but can't figure
out how to stop the current CDE or OpenWin window manager.

I've tried editing the standard
/usr/dt/bin/Xsession file, created a .xinitrc or .x11start
file (exec /usr/X11R6/bin/afterstep) but I still get the error
'Another window manager is running'.
