custom icons

Hi, I just upgraded to AS 1.6 running on FreeBSD
and it's wonderful!

Here's something I'm still stuck on: I've been
trying to use an icon that comes with emacs
called gnu.xpm for emacs by specifying it in
the database file and putting the icon in the
16bpp icon directory and it seems to be ignored.

I tried creating another xpm file with xv and
putting it in the same directory and specifying
it for emacs and it was ignored. Is there something
else I need to do in able to use my own xpm's?

Thanks for any advice, I'm really enjoying AfterStep
(and obsessive about getting it all customized :-).
