yes...I thought that there were no problems in the above process as well
(hence the confusion) ... 

ahem ... the problem was :

 ...it was about three seconds after i sent this mail that I realised
that my path wasnt set to /usr/local/bin...hence typing 'aterm' didnt do
very much

most embarassing...

will now go and crawl into my hole...:)
