ASMAIL in Gnome startup

I hav a problem with Afterstep and Gnome. I just upgraded my system with a
new install of Slackware 7, primarily for Gnome and glibc. I finally got
Afterstep starting up properly from Gnome, but I have a problem with asmail
persisting accross sessions. When Gnome starts up, it doesn't see any of my
wharf applets as being X programs that are running (which is good) except for
asmail (which is bad).

Because it thinks asmail is just another program, it thinks it's something
that I want to have run again the next time Gnome starts up. So I get more
and mnore asmail programs every time.

Is there an easy solution to this? I would have looked through the mailing
list archives (if there are any) but the web page for this mailing list at
Caldera doesn't seem to exist any more.

Other than this problem, and the fact that Gnome won't shut down when
Afterstep does, it seems to work well with Gnome.

        Kurt.
