Are you using feel.GNOME?  You'll need to, otherwise AS will intercept
root-window mouse-clicks as a call to the window manager.  That is, by the
way, the way it's supposed to work according to the ICCCM specs; kde and
GNOME are both non-compliant in this way, unless you think of them as
window managers.  Which is not to say anything bad about GNOME or kde,
since the simple fact is that almost everyone ignores the ICCCM to some
extent or other (including AS, by default).
