[As-users] DISPLAY error

Hi, I am new to afterstep. I just downloaded a fresh install of NetBSD
3.0, and decided to run a minimal but pleasing and functional wm on
it.

Anyways, my problem is that although afterstep does load properly, I
can't actually start any programs whatsover from it's menu. Let's say
I click on "Applications -> X terminal". Nothing happens, although the
the console from which I "startx", shows this:

afterstep ERROR: failed to start exec xterm -bg black....
afterstep SYSTEM ERROR: comple command line: "exec xterm ..."
.
System error textNo such file or directory

Very odd. As well, the dock and pager do not load either. All I get
after startup is a nice background. Only the menu appears to be
working, but the menu can't load other programs either.

I don't know if this is related or not, but typeing "xterm" from a
virtual console says:

xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
xterm: DISPLAY is not set

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated!
