Well the hassle is if they've say, got a gtk theme or anything else
already their first impression of Afterstep will be "WTF JUST HAPPENED?!
BASTARD!" rather then the intended "Oooh! Nifty." I know that's
precisely what happened to me and even as a long time AS user I was /so/
not pleased (as people on the IRC channel may have noted :).

Plus it seems the default selection of colours for GTK, at least from my AS
theme, doesn't work out so well. My first impression (before I found out
my gtk settings were nuked) was 'bleh' and 'wtf just happened?'.
