I see SMP... is it an SMP machine?  Are you running an AMD64?

Have you looked at the SUSE .spec file for AfterStep to see the general 
build steps taken?

The Fedora .spec file is at:

The biggest difference that I would expect between SUSE and Fedora would 
be the gdm/xdm setup locations.

The Fedora .src.rpms are at:
ftp://ftp.afterstep.org/stable/rpms/SRPMS/

You can always take a look at that and tweak to your heart's content 
too.
