I downloaded the 2.2.8 tar.bz2 a few weeks ago, and got around to testing
it this evening. No obvious problems in the compile or install, but when
I try to run it, this happens:

xauth: creating new authority file /home/dcf/.serverauth.15653

 Stack Backtrace :
Please collect all the listed information and submit a bug report to <as-bugs@afterstep.org>.
If core dump was generated by this fault, please examine it with gdb and attach results to your report.
You can use the following sequence to do so :
   gdb -core core /usr/local/bin/afterstep
   gdb>info frame
   gdb>info all-registers

waiting for X server to shut down FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

... and then nothing, until I Ctrl-C a few times. There's no core file.
2.2.5 works fine on this machine, in fact I'm using it right now.

How should I go about trying to resolve this?

System info:
OpenSUSE 10.3 kernel
...what else would be useful to know?
