31 March 2003 A little reorganisation. We are back to "one directory per subject" structure. This makes for a flat filesystem and it is easier to maintain and navigate. And, I found a script to hide the e-mail address within a JavaScript :) 02 June 2002 Okay, we are up and running. The whole thing has been rewritten and cleaned up freeing about 30 MB of space in the process. The site got a uniform look now and it is much faster. I still have to do a bit of this and that but, basically, it works :) 19 May 2002 Well, finally it caught me up. Or I did... I have started rewriting the whole thing in PHP. We will see how long it takes. 10 March 2002 Okay, the AfterStep mail list archives are back here. Due to the restrictions on the size I cannot make a decent search engine. I will have to figure something out. Maybe we'll go back to searching with 'grep' *sigh*. 21 October 2001 Right, here we are again. I moved the server (not of my own free will) between different servers a couple of times during the late soring and summer. The whole thing is screwed up, almost no script works. I am moving now to a more or less permanent (hopefully!) location and I am rewriting everything back to the static content. No time for scripting! 20 March 2001 Okay, this is not a major rewrite but I have to change things that do not work into those that do work. I am looking at different possibilities from a completely static site to rewriting the libraries to suit the new server and my everchanging wants. For the moment I am doing stupid things like tweaking a bit here and there while ruminating over the future backend of this site. 26 January 2001 The server is down, they are moving to another location (the ISP that is) and I am watching in horror all my scripts go bye-bye. All right, most of the things work on this machine as well as in the old place but some are just not running... I will bring up whatever works after checking that it all works really. 21 October 2000 Nice development :) I always thought that black was not my color. Now I changed it all to my favorite light brown-ish color and it looks (to me;) much better. Some little tweaks with the html programming, added last modified date in many places as well. Oh, yeah, and white background overall as it should have been from the beginning :) 15 October 2000 Moved the AfterStep applets distro into /afterstep/. There was not much of AfterStep discussion on the page to waste the space so it is all in one now. 20 September 2000 Threw out the news on the front page. I never have time to write them anyway so there is no point in pretending. It looks strange now so I think I will have to rework the layout a bit later. 09 July 2000 A bit of reworking. I changed the /doc/ directory that contains the documentation of the server to be handled by a Perl script. This will make it a bit easier to keep in line with the rest of the server when I change colors and stuff like that. New resume is there in text, when it is finished I will convert it to HTML. I am contemplating removing the directory /afterstep/as-apps/ and making /afterstep/ the home of the AfterStep applets distribution. It is fairly easy to do but I am uncertain of the consequences yet... I finally decided (after much hesitation) to call /more/ the directory with personal info. I am making some pictures available and I will write up something nice later. 02 March 2000 I moved the e-mail archives of AfterStep mailing lists to another server. The purpose is making them completely automated. They will be automatically updated and run through the search engine regularly. Being lazy is good when it makes you inventive ;) 12 September 1999 Ok, so I did some of the stuff I planned but not everything. A genuine lack of time. I will probably postpone all the great features and real stuff until I have my own server instead of a hosting service. In the meantime the server grows little by little... 04 July 1999 Started the overhaul of the server. The target being able to allow full remote administration for me and a set of admin functions for some of the users. On the content side - allow submissions of articles, comments, links, documents and software to the server. The user database was converted and seems to work. 30 May 1999 It's going fast once you get a hold on it :) I learned how to write the Perl modules correctly and currently having much fun rewriting almost everything in Perl. I have to stop myself, actually, from not rewriting everything at all. Some pages should stay static, you know. Anyway, Perl is great and dynamic pages are much more fun than static could ever be. The functionality that is provided is very limited though. I did not make yet anything additional to the already existing as-apps page. On the other hand, I hope the stability of the server has improved a lot. And cleaner code counts for much too :) 25 May 1999 The first attempt at making the site more dynamic. I had already a few scripts that allowed dynamic access to information but this time it goes the other way around - dynamic creation of content. Now we have here user logins and users can submit news and set some settings like how many articles they want to see at once. 02 May 1999 The /afterstep/ site is now operating quite nicely without too much taking care of it. There are a few scripts now that take care of certain browsing and searching as well as generating some files. I think you can say that the site is half static and half generated now. I think it is about time I move on. The rest of the site must be polished now. Tigr.net is my home page, after all :) 26 Dec 1998 The Christmas sale is open :) The /afterstep is devoted to AfterStep and includes the following: - applets distro in afterstep/as-apps/ - mailing list archive - devel mailing list archive 17 Dec 1998 Due to the requests on AfterStep mailing list the existence of the site is announced and the AS applets distribution is uploaded to the site /as-apps 01 Dec 1998 Tigr.Net becomes operational
